The biggest airline company in Colombia is Avianca and they are also a member of Star Alliance and their head office is located in Bogota, Colombia.
They offer routes to North and South America and their big destinations in Europe are Madrid and London.
It’s fairly easy to connect form there although in my opinion Madrid airport is spread out and usually you have to switch terminal when arriving and to do that you need to go by metro and bus plus walking quiet a lot.
Their frequent flier program is LIFEMILES and based om y own experience it has improved a lot just the last 2-3 years and their service is much better now. Still, there are some issues to book flights credit by miles and last time I did it Gothenburg airport was not in the list even though Star Alliance has traffic to Gothenburg through Lufthansa and SAS Airlines.
DOMESTIC AVIANCA FLIGHTS
For domestic flights Avianca works OK although they have experienced some delays in flights, especially beginning of 2018 when there was a strike and Avianca hired staff from other low budget companies in Sout America. But that has improved now. From Bogota, you can fly to all the mayor cities in Colombia, from Medellin to Barranquilla, Bucaramange, Pasto, Cartagena, Bogota and Cùcuta. From Cali to Baraquila, Cartagena, Medellin, Tumaco, Pasto and Bogota.
AVIANCA BUSINESS CLASS Review
last flight to Europe was purchased with my earned miles and I started from Medellin to Bogota, second leg Bogota London and third leg London to Copenhagen. It was excellent service all the way and I was impressed of the standard. Since the London flight from Bogota was a night flight the meal was served right after take off and then I was able to sleep for some hours and watched some movies before breakfast was served before arrival to London. as courtesy, they gave out a nice toilet bag containing toothbrush, dental creme, eye mask, socks, comb, ear plugs and hand lotion. The meals were high quality and all served with porcelain disk and silver cutlery. Of course the blanket and pillow in business class are a bit more comfortable and you’ll have the option to use high quality earphones as well. My baggage allowance allowed me to bring an extra suitcase 23kg which helped out a lot, especially upon returning so I could bring a lot of gifts to my family.
Avianca are using Boeing 787, Airbus A330, Airbus A321, among others. The long haul flight to London was Airbus 330 almost brand new and very modern.
